About Us

Makhetha Environmental Consultants was established in East London in November 2012, as an Environmental Consultancy, Occupational Health & Safety Services and Community Development Company.

The company started as a partnership between Martha Makhetha Pr. Eng. and Robyn Thomson Cert. EAP.  The company has a 70% black and 100% women shareholding. The company is a level 1 BBBEE contributor.

The company’s services encompass environmental authorisation & permit applications, monitoring, planning and training as well as GIS; occupational health & safety planning, compliance monitoring and training; and social facilitation between communities and project implementers, specifically on community-based, labour intensive projects.  Community development focuses on infrastructure development, job creation and skills development.  The benefit of community projects is multi-faceted, in that the local economy is boosted, people are empowered with new skills and they are left with an amenity that they have constructed themselves, which also results in a strong sense of ownership.

The company has offices in East London, Port Elizabeth and Richards Bay. It has a staff complement of 5 (80% technical and 20% administrative).  The company also receives administrative assistance from Makhetha Development Consultants.
